BAKTUN A.D.

MODERN LABOURERS OF ANTIQUITY

This series is a visual chronicle of labour across centuries, where past and present blur in each frame. It captures the hands that now clean, repair, and restore Chichén Itzá. Hands that, like those of the ancient Maya builders, endure hardships that might otherwise fade into history.

The pyramid stands as a silent witness to both the workers who built it and those who now preserve its grandeur. The lens reveals an unsettling juxtaposition of time.

Baktun counts ancient Mayan time; A.D. marks the modern era.

This photographic record documents the restoration process of the Temple of Kukulcán, located at the ancient site of Chichén Itzá in modern Mexico.
